The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 The day on which the quaking one shall quake, 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety. 8 Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They have said, "Such a resurrection will certainly be a great loss". 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]! 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 and say to him: 'Are you willing to be purified, 18 and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Then he turned back striving. 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 And said, "I am your most exalted lord." 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
