He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
