He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
