The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
