The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sun shall be folded up, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 and when the mountains are moved, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it had prepared (for itself). 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 and the morning when it extends, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
