The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 he shall have no power, and no helper. 10 By the heaven which returneth, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 it is not a jest. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently, 17
