The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 Consider the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 this (Qur'an) is surely a decisive Word, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 And I (too) am planning a plan. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
