Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
