The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
