Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
