Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
