The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
