Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 till the appointed time. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
