And Harun (Aaron) indeed had said to them beforehand: "O my people! You are being tried in this, and verily, your Lord is (Allah) the Most Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They said: We will by no means cease to keep to its worship until Musa returns to us. 91 (After rebuking his people) Moses turned to Aaron and said: "Aaron! What prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 "That you followed me not (according to my advice to you)? Have you then disobeyed my order?" 93 He [Harun (Aaron)] said: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard, nor by my head! Verily, I feared lest you should say: 'You have caused a division among the Children of Israel, and you have not respected my word!' " 94 Moses asked, "Samiri, what were your motives?" 95 He said, "I perceived what they did not see. So I took a handful [of dust] from the footprint of the Messenger and threw it in [the calf]. That is what my inner self prompted me to do." 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your Lord is the One who is the only God and He has the knowledge of all things. 98 Thus We relate to you the history of past events, and We have given you a reminder [the Quran] from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it will surely carry a burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We know well what they will say to one another: We also know that even the most cautious in his estimate will say: "You lived in the world no more than a day." 104
