۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 We appointed them as leaders to guide the people through Our command and sent them revelation to strive for good deeds, worship their Lord, and pay religious tax. Both of them were Our worshipping servants. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
