(Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician, 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate 39 Haply we shall follow the sorcerers if it should be they are the victors.' 40 Now when the sorcerers came, they said unto Pharaoh: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail. 41 He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)." 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating themselves, 46 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 49 They said, 'There is no harm; surely unto our Lord we are turning. 50 We hope our Lord will forgive us, as we are the first of the believers." 51
