Fir'awn said unto the chiefs around him: verily this is a magician knowing. 34 Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye? 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 to mobilise all skilled magicians." 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 and the people were asked: 'Will you gather 39 Haply we shall follow the sorcerers if it should be they are the victors.' 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said: yea; and ye shall verily then be of those brought nigh. 42 Moses said to the magicians, "Throw down whatever you are going to throw." 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said, "There is no harm. To our Lord we shall return. 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
