[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
