[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
