Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
