The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
