Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
