Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
