Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 And those that flow with ease and gentleness; 3 then by the distributors (angels), ordered; 4 Indeed, what you are promised is true. 5 And the judgment must most surely come about. 6 And by oath of the decorated heaven. 7 Truly ye are in a doctrine discordant, 8 From which only he turns who is turned away. 9 Perish the conjecturers 10 and who wander in the abyss of confusion. 11 They ask: “When will the Day of Judgement be?” 12 It will be the Day when they are tormented at the Fire. 13 'Taste your trial. This is what you have sought to hasten' 14 Surely the godfearing shall be among gardens and fountains 15 Accepting the rewards given by their Lord; they were indeed virtuous before this. 16 They used to sleep but little of the night, 17 and at dawn would ask forgiveness, 18 And the beggar and the destitute had a share in their wealth. 19 There are signs in the earth for those who are firm in their faith, 20 there are signs for firm believers. Do you not see then? 21 In the heavens there is your sustenance and that which you were promised (Paradise). 22 By the Lord of the heavens and the earth, this is certainly true even as you speak. 23
