The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
