The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
