Al-Dhaareyaat 2 of 3
Have you heard the story of Abraham's honored guests? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 Then he turned to his household, so brought out a roasted calf [as the property of Ibrahim (Abraham) was mainly cows]. 26 and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?” 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! 29 They said, 'So says thy Lord; He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.' 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: And (afterward) what is your errand, O ye sent (from Allah)? 31 They said: "We have been sent to a wicked people 32 so that we bring down stones of clay upon them 33 Marked by your Lord for those who waste their substance." 34 So We brought forth such believers as were in it, 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 And therein We left a sign to those who fear the painful chastisement. 37 As (there was) in Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman." 39 We seized him and his army and threw them into the sea. He himself was to be blamed. 40 There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Ad, when We let loose upon them an ominous wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, except that it was ashes. 42 There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Thamud. They were told: “Enjoy yourselves for a while.” 43 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord, so the Sa'iqah overtook them while they were looking. 44 And neither stand up nor defend themselves. 45 And before them, We destroyed the people of Nooh; they were indeed a sinning nation. 46

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
