The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
