Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people telling him, "Warn your people before a painful torment approaches them". 1 He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner, 2 saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! 5 But my call has only made them flee the more: 6 "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 "Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public, and I have appealed to them in private, 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 and He will loose heaven upon you in torrents 11 "'Give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers (of flowing water). 12 "'What is amiss with you that you cannot look forward to God's majesty, 13 While He has created you in stages? 14 "Have you not seen that God has created the seven heavens one above the other 15 And has placed the moon therein, an illumination, and has placed the sun, a lighted lamp? 16 And Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth so wondrously, 17 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing. 18 Allah has made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 That you may go about therein in broad roads. 20
