Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
