The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
