The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
