The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
