The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
