He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
