He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
