He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
