He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
