Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
