Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
