The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
