The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
