The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
