The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Byzantians have been overcome. 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc.), and they are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 What, have they not considered within themselves? God created not the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, save with the truth and a stated term; yet most men disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
