The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
