The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
