Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 Then as to Samood, they were destroyed by an excessively severe punishment. 5 and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind 6 which He willed against them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that in the end thou couldst see those people laid low [in death,] as though they were so many [uprooted] trunks of hollow palm trees: 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. 10 And when the waters rose (high) We carried you in the sailing (Ark), 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and then crushed with a single blow, 14 On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for on that Day it will be so frail. 16 And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear on that day your Lord's power. 17 On that day all of you will be brought forth, so none among you wishing to hide will be able to hide. 18 Those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their right hands will say, "Come and read my record. 19 Surely I knew that I shall meet my account. 20 Then he will be in blissful state 21 in a high Garden, 22 its clusters nigh to gather. 23 Such people will be told, "Eat and drink with pleasure as the reward for what you did in the past". 24 And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me! 25 "And that I had never known, how my Account is? 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has not availed me. 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 Lay hold on him, then put a chain on him, 30 Then cast him into the burning fire, 31 Then thrust him into a chain the length of which is seventy cubits. 32 they did not believe in the great God, 33 and he never urged the feeding of the needy; 34 That is why he has no friend today, 35 nor any food save the filth 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
