Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
