The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
