He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
